UK scientists create first hybrid embryos

The first batch of a new hybrid embryos have been created by scientists at the University of Newcastle, the embryos which are part human and part animal survive for only three days but are hoped to be able to help in the filed of medical research.

This research is still under scrutiny, with MP’s debating on the future of it in around four week’s time. Many groups including the Catholic Church have called these experiments monstrous, but those involved in the science maintain that this research is essential if a treatment is to be found for diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

Clearly this is going to be a controversial issue and the outcome whatever that is, will probably not stop this type of research, as it will probably just move somewhere else. The question with any research of this kind is whether or not the results out way the complaints. Should the research be allowed to continue though, the complaints will increase there is no doubt about that.
