Will stem cells ever be stored?

This may be a bit sci fi at the moment but eventually it is believed that the work into stem cells will have advanced so far along that medical staff will able to order genes from a bio bank.

What this could mean is that people would be able to bank their own cells for future treatments; this is similar to what is being done with fertility clinics and even blood banks.

But this is new research and as such is breaking new ground all of the time, the problem is with this type of science is regulation and who actually owns the stem cell banks etc.

Clearly there is still a long way to go before any of this becomes a reality. But for people who suffer from illnesses or other problems which could be treated through this method the day that this treatment is normal cannot come any sooner.
