Breakthrough in stem cell research
A new way of creating stem cells could mean that some of the world’s most devastating disease could soon be studied in great depth with a view to eventually finding a safe and effective treatment.
According to Dr. Andras Nagy, Senior Investigator at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute of Mount Sinai Hospital, Investigator at the McEwen Centre for Regenerative Medicine, and Canada Research Chair in Stem Cells and Regeneration, cures for such diseases as spinal cord injury, macular degeneration, diabetes and Parkinson’s disease.
Any treatment for these diseases is going to make a huge difference in the quality of life for the sufferers and families too. Naturally, this is going to be a long time off, but there has to be a starting point and this could be it.
