Cloned food, is it safe?

This is the sort of question that crops up in the end of the world sci-fi scenarios, but then it was fiction and now it fact. But how safe is it for us to eat food that has been created in a lab?

All of the relevant authorities believe that this type of food is completely safe and will not be a threat to anyone, but we have heard this before with other products too.

Cloned food starts off in the lab and is grown by implanting the cloned animal into a healthy “Mother” and the rest is done naturally, however there is a slight problem the cost! Apparently at the moment the average price of a cloned animal is around £7,500, so we won’t be seeing them in the supermarkets for at least few years. But what will they do to bring the cost down?
